When Small Acts Create Big Impact

Picture walking past a wall covered with 150 numbered envelopes. Some hang open and empty, others remain sealed, waiting. A simple sign reads: “Choose one. Change everything.”

Each envelope holds the power to transform lives halfway around the world. Your monthly coffee budget—redirected for just one year—could help combat false teaching in South African churches or provide life-saving support to women in crisis.

This isn’t a fundraising gimmick. It’s an invitation to partnership that makes kingdom impact tangible, personal, and achievable.

How the Envelope System Works

The concept, admittedly, is pretty simple: the number on the envelope equals the monthly commitment.

  • Envelope #25 = $25/month
  • Envelope #87 = $87/month
  • Envelope #150 = $150/month

When all 150 envelopes are claimed, the total reaches $11,325 per month—133% of our $8,500 monthly budget. Why more than we need?

Ultimately, there are two reasons: first, we don’t truly need all 150 envelopes filled; this is just a method of getting us to 100% as quickly as possible. We won’t be upset if no one claims the $43 envelope; as long as we get to 100%, we’re ready to go and serve!

Secondly, though, getting more than 100% creates a future safety net for (1) cost of living increases, (2) potential donor changes, and (3) ministry projects. For example, one of our partners in Durban  is planning a church building project in the next five years, and they are still $100k short of their goal. If we filled all 150 envelopes and raise an extra $2,500+ monthly for three years, we can contribute significantly without impacting our core ministry. (Seriously, that’s $90k — almost the entire building fund!)

As of 2025-06-30, we’re currently at $600, or 7% of our monthly goal with some envelopes already claimed by faithful partners.

  • Two generous supporters have taken us on for $100 a month, while
  • Six others have chosen to support us at $50 a month
  • Four others have taken us on at $40, $30, $20, and $10 each.

So we can safely say that the $100 and the $50 envelopes are spoken for, as well as splitting up the $50 partners into the $49+$1, the $48+$2, the $47+$3, the $46+$4, and the $45+$5 envelopes — those are all taken now! For the second $100 partner, we’ve chosen to cover the $94 and $6 envelopes (which may mess us up in the future, but that’s the quickest way we can figure out how to split it).

The Power of Partnership Milestones

Here’s how the Envelope System becomes a roadmap to ministry transformation:

$500/month milestone (roughly three mid-range envelopes): This level demonstrates growing partnership momentum and helps cover pre-field expenses like cultural training and language preparation. (We are here!)

$2,125/month milestone (25% of our $8,500 need): Reaching this level signals serious ministry viability and opens doors to additional ABWE resources and training opportunities.

$4,250/month milestone (50% funded): This represents a tipping point where we can begin planning concrete timelines for departure and intensive pre-field preparation (we can’t leave if we don’t finish all of our classes, haha).

$6,375/month milestone (the coveted 75% mark): This is our immediate target. At 75%, Abbey and I can step away from outside employment and pursue support raising full-time, dramatically accelerating our timeline to reach Durban. We can focus on building partnerships, completing training, and preparing for effective ministry launch.

$8,500/month (100% funded): Full support means we’re Durban-bound! At this level, we can sustain long-term ministry without the constant pressure of fundraising, allowing us to pour our energy into what God has called us to do.

$11,325/month (All 150 envelopes filled): This provides a safety net; when supporters face financial difficulties or pass away, we can focus on finding replacement partners  for a single amount on our next trip back instead of scrambling to make ends meet while serving overseas.

Each milestone represents increased ministry readiness, deeper community investment, and greater kingdom impact potential.

What Full Funding Means for Durban

When we reach full support, here’s what becomes possible:

For South African Churches: I’ll spend my days building websites and social media presences that help authentic churches cut through the noise of prosperity gospel messaging. When families in Durban search for “church” online, they’ll find communities teaching Biblical truth instead of false promises of health and wealth. Local church volunteers will receive ongoing training to maintain and grow these digital resources, creating sustainable gospel advancement.

For Women in Crisis: With 70% of South African women having experienced sexual assault and 24% of pregnancies ending in abortion, Abbey’s work becomes literally life-saving. Through Beautiful Feet International, she’ll establish birth ministries in local churches, providing counseling, support, and hope to women facing impossible decisions. Her thirteen certifications in women’s health position her to address both physical and spiritual needs with excellence.

For Families: In a country where 42% of children live in single-mother homes, our combined ministry creates a support network addressing both immediate needs and eternal hope. Churches equipped with effective outreach tools can better serve their communities, while women receive practical support that often determines whether families stay together or fall apart.

For the Gospel: Every thriving church, every supported woman, every healed family becomes a testimony to Christ’s power in a nation desperate for authentic spiritual answers. We’re joining God’s work to establish His kingdom in hearts and communities hungry for truth.

Your Envelope Awaits

As I write this, we’re only 20 days into our “100% in 100 Days” challenge, sitting at 7% of our monthly goal. We need partners who understand that claiming an envelope means investing in kingdom transformation.

Maybe God is stirring your heart toward the $42 envelope—the price of a dinner for two, redirected monthly toward eternal impact. Perhaps the $78 envelope resonates with you—less than your monthly streaming subscriptions, but funding digital ministry that reaches thousands. Or maybe the $150 envelope feels right—a significant monthly investment in seeing South African families transformed by the gospel.

Every envelope matters. The supporter who claims envelope #12 is just as vital as the one who takes #149. In God’s economy, the widow’s two coins carry the same kingdom weight as the wealthy person’s large gift.
