Friends, this is Joe and Abbey Barnosky with some incredible news that doubles our excitement about reaching Durban! There is a very generous family who believes in bringing hope to South Africa, and they have just offered something amazing: from December 1st through the 14th, 2025, every gift to Bar No Sky Missions through ABWE gets doubled.

That’s right! Your impact multiplies whether you’re becoming a monthly partner or making a one-time gift towards our moving costs. This isn’t just a fundraising push—it’s an invitation to be part of something that matters twice as much.

Why Durban Needs This Now

Fun Fact: Durban is Africa’s busiest port city, making it a crossroads where Hinduism, Islam, traditional African spirituality, and Christianity collide in ways that create unique spiritual vulnerabilities and opportunities.

You can literally buy goat heads at the market for Zulu “Christian” rituals. A witch doctor has a call-in show on “Christian” radio, telling desperate people which ancestors to appease before Jesus can hear their prayers. The spiritual confusion in Durban isn’t theoretical — it’s the daily reality for thousands of families desperate for truth.

The syncretism is suffocating. Christianity gets blended with ancestor worship, prosperity theology, and magical thinking until churches become venues for false hope instead of real transformation. And the families caught in the middle? They’re vulnerable. They’re searching. They’re willing to try anything if it promises relief.

But here’s what matters: the door is wide open for churches willing to stand up with clarity, compassion, and digital tools that actually reach people where they are. Great churches are already in Durban!   …You (and they) just can’t find them.

What We’re Building There

We didn’t design our ministries by accident. God wired us for something specific, and it’s rare: one half digital innovation, the other half crisis pregnancy care—both serving these amazing churches with different tools toward the same goal: families finding real hope in real Jesus.

Joe's Side: Digital Truth

I equip churches with 21st-century tools for reaching seekers in a city drowning in spiritual noise. When a family in Durban pulls up Google looking for “church near me” or “help with my marriage,” they need to find a real church with real answers, not another witch doctor or some prosperity kook with a better marketing budget.

We’re building digital pathways — websites, social media strategies, online learning  platforms for those who can’t physically get to church — things that make biblical clarity louder than confusion. Real churches become findable by real seekers. Digital truth rises, deception falls. One family at a time, the gospel wins the attention it deserves.

Abbey's Side: Beautiful Feet Pregnancy & Family Care

Beautiful Feet International doesn’t build buildings; they build life-saving networks. Beautiful Feet trains churches to become crisis pregnancy experts, which sounds narrow until you realize it’s the entry point for everything else.

When a young woman discovers she’s pregnant and alone, she’s vulnerable. Desperate. Willing to listen. What if instead of finding a witch doctor or an abortionist, she found a pastor trained in compassionate crisis counseling? What if the doctor in her community had the tools and faith to offer her real options? What if her church became a sanctuary instead of just a building?

That’s Beautiful Feet. We transform pastors into counselors. We equip doctors with faith-based crisis intervention. We train lay leaders to create sanctuaries for vulnerable families. Together, we’re building a Gospel safety net across Durban.

1+1= Way More Than 2

When churches can find seekers digitally AND catch families in crisis, something multiplies. Women and families in desperate circumstances don’t just find information, they find community. They find hope. They find Jesus. One network strengthens the other. One church’s digital reach becomes another church’s referral source. Crisis becomes conversion point. Digital outreach is the turning point for Durban’s tecnological era; we just need our boots on the ground to make the difference needed there.

Getting There: Real Talk, Real Numbers

We’ve shared our full budget in a separate blog post, breaking down how each number is calculated, but the short answer is this:

  • Our monthly support needed is about $8,500/month, and
  • Our moving costs are about $85,000.
  • As of today (November 26), we are at 42% of our monthly committments ($3,581) and roughly 70% of our moving costs (about $60,000).

We’re actively seeking individuals to join our prayer team, care team, and financial support team. As mentioned in another previous blog post, this isn’t a financial request; it’s an invitation to partner and make a difference in Durban together.

And not to make this post a bevy of other posts, but we’ve also shared before about how if we had a financial partner representing every number from $1/month to $150/month, we’d have 133% of our monthly support— more than enough to serve in Durban indefinitely!

But another way to look at it is that we’re roughly $5000/month short of being fully able to go, or 100 partners at $50/month. That’s why having a donation match available makes such a huge difference!

How the Match Works

Monthly Giving (The Long Game)

Every new monthly commitment up to 5% (or $425/month) will be matched dollar for dollar! If you give $50 a month, it becomes $100. If you give $200 a month, that’s $400 of impact for Durban every month moving forward. For monthly partners, this is huge.

You can schedule your first monthly gift now to start anytime in December. This is sustainable ministry fuel. This is the kind of partnership that lets us plant deep roots in Durban instead of just visiting.

One-Time Gifts (The Moving Costs)

Every dollar towards our moving costs gets doubled too, all the way up to fully funded.

Let’s make it practical: Abbey needs a new laptop for the pregnancy crisis ministry work she’s doing. If we raise $750 towards that need, our matching donors add another $750, and that’s enough for equipping digital ministry in Durban. Real needs. Real solutions. Doubled impact.

The Ubuntu Principle

We’ve really come to love the Zulu concept of “Ubuntu,” which means “I am because we are.” This matching gift only works because of community. Your doubled gift multiplies not just dollars, but the sense that we’re doing this together. The generosity of one generous family gets amplified by the faith commitment of a community that says, “We’re in. We believe. We’re sending you.” That’s Ubuntu. That’s the Kingdom.

How to Give

Ready to double your impact? It’s simple. Everything runs through ABWE, our sending organization, which means your gift is tax-deductible and secure.

The Direct Path:
The official giving page is https://give.abwe.org/worker/10174 but my goodness, that’s a mouthful!  We set up an easy redirect to our ABWE giving page via barnosky.africa/give. Choose monthly or one-time gift. Schedule your first monthly gift to start anytime in December if you prefer.

What Happens Next:
Your gift gets matched immediately (if given December 1-14). You’ll receive a tax receipt. And you’ll be part of a community bringing hope to Durban twice as fast and twice as strong.

A Small Ask:
If you can’t give right now, you can still multiply impact: share this with your small group, forward it to friends who care about missions, ask your church to pray during the match period. Every share multiplies the kingdom impact.

Act Now!

You’re not being asked to fund a dream. You’re being invited to join one. To be part of what God is already doing in Durban. To multiply your impact in a way that extends far beyond a financial transaction.

This is a two-week window of opportunity from December 1st to 14th. Your generosity goes twice as far. Every dollar matters. For two weeks, it matters twice as much.

Mark your calendar. Set a reminder. Plan your giving. Starting December 1st, let’s see what God does through your doubled impact.

Together, we’re bringing hope to Durban twice as fast and twice as strong. This is the Barnosky family going to South Africa, and we cannot wait to see what God does through your partnership.

Visit barnosky.africa/give starting December 1st.
